Fences and Decks

Cedar and pressure-treated fences, gates and decks built for Colorado weather

Outdoor projects built for Colorado

Wind, snow and big temperature swings are hard on fences and decks. We plan every fence and deck around your yard, your budget and Colorado weather, and build it to stay straight and solid for years.

St. Vrain Construction is a second-generation, licensed general contractor (Longmont license C01009653) serving Longmont, Boulder County and Weld County.

We get to you fast. We typically return calls the same or next business day, come out for an estimate within 3 business days, and get you a written estimate within 2 business days after that. Most projects start within 2 to 3 weeks of signing.

How a fence or deck project works with us

  1. We walk your yard with you. We look at the layout, slope, soil and existing structures, and talk about what you want: privacy, a place to gather, or keeping the dog in.
  2. We talk honestly about budget. Material choice makes a big difference, so we show you where the money goes.
  3. We look for ways to get more for less. Mixing materials, choosing the right board style, or phasing a long fence line can stretch your budget.
  4. You get a clear, itemized estimate. Long fences are broken into sections so you can choose what to build now and what can wait. No up-selling.
  5. We handle the details. We check permit and HOA requirements and have utility lines marked before we dig.
  6. We build it and walk it with you. Posts, framing, boards, gates and hardware, followed by a final walkthrough.

What affects the cost of a fence or deck

  • Length and height. More linear feet and taller fences mean more material and labor.
  • Material. Cedar, pressure-treated and composite all price differently.
  • Gates. Each gate adds framing, hardware and labor.
  • Terrain and soil. Slopes and rocky ground take more time to set posts.
  • Removing the old fence or deck. Tear-out and haul-away add to the job.
  • Deck size, height and railings. Raised decks need more structure, stairs and railings.

Frequently asked questions

Cedar looks great and naturally resists rot. Pressure-treated wood costs less and is very durable. Some clients combine them, and we will walk you through the tradeoffs for your yard.

We check what your city and HOA require and help you get approvals before we build.

[Your answer: do you tear out and haul away the old fence or deck?]

We take a 50% deposit to start, which covers materials. Larger jobs include a progress payment, and the balance is due when the work is done.
